Swavesey Village College Half Marathon & 5 Miler

Last year’s popular Swavesey Half Marathon is set to return again to the streets of Swavesey on Sunday 02 March 2014.

Staff and students at Swavesey Village College are ready to unfold the next Swavesey Half Marathon and parallel five mile run and are inviting all runners and fitness fanatics from across the region to sign-up now and take part in what was heralded as a great success last year.

The half marathon and five mile fun run will take place on Sunday 02 March 2014 and will be open to all levels of runners. The five mile race is open to anyone over the age of 13 years, and the half marathon is available to anyone over 18 years old.

The funds raised by the Swavesey Half Marathon will go to support the school’s charities – this year Sue Ryder, as well as helping to develop the outdoor education park. The Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice was instrumental in caring and supporting Swavesey’s former principal Martin Bacon who completed the run last year before sadly losing his battle with cancer.

The course starts and ends at Swavesey Village College and takes runners through the picturesque village and inspiring RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes nature reserve, and finally returning along the guided bus way and cycleway (although not on the bus way itself).

Kate Sealy, Race Director for the half marathon said: “We are delighted to be working again with our local community by continuing the Swavesey Half Marathon after last year’s success. It’s a great event with the community and school coming together to host a fun and friendly atmosphere with refreshments on site, free parking and bag storage. The course is flat and multi-terrain and last year many PB’s were smashed. What a way to test your winter training!”

Staff and students from the village college will be offering support on the day to the runners and event organisers and hope to make this event another great success.

Entry fees for the half marathon will be £15 for affiliated members and £17 for non-affiliated members. The five mile race costs £5 for under-16s and £7 for 16 and over.

Registration is now open and application forms and information can be found on-line at
