Careers, Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG)
North Cambridge Academy has a comprehensive CIAG programme which includes in Yr 7, 8 and 9 specialist days off timetable and introduction to the world of work through such projects as the ‘Real Game’ In year 9 we also have projects such as the USAF mentoring project where some pupils experience a different work environment. Year 9 also have an introduction to Higher education programme from Cambridge University and Anglia University.
In years 10 we have a strong connection through ‘Business Class’ to a partner business ‘Ridgeons’. We run a number of different CIAG activities such as a six week mentoring project, a guess my job project and ‘How to find and secure a job’ day. In year 10 we also further links with Cambridge University and some pupils make and present a film on the day in the life of a student. This year group are given the opportunity to visit post 16 centres and spend a day leaning about the institution and possible route of study.
We are re-introducing work experience week for year 10 this year with the last school week in July and we have sent pupils in years 10 and 11 on specialist residential projects to Bedford University (computing), Addenbrooks Hospital (Introductions to the NHS) and Clare College Cambridge (Cambridge a place to study) .
In year 11 there is a post 16 evening organised and pupils must also complete, with the help of their tutors, their on line application for their post 16 courses by January of the year of entry, UCAS Entry. This is followed by interviews and further taster days at their college of choice. We also have careers advisor interviews throughout Years 10 and 11 and a specialist, Paula Holmes, has been employed to help a number of pupils make the transition from NCA to post 16 colleges a smooth process.
